“Memory is the space in which a thing happens for a second time.”
― Paul Auster

“We all have an old knot in the heart we wish to untie.”
― Michael Ondaatje

As writers we often find ourselves confronting the blank page, searching our mind for words, a feeling, an idea. The harder we think, the more elusive our prey becomes. How do we find the strings to tug on that knot in our heart, to loose the memory into the space of our creativity, the space that invites a thing to live again? Often the answer isn’t found in the mind. We find it as we let words tumble onto the page, and as we look behind those words, we often discover images and ideas we didn’t even know we were looking for. Whether you write nonfiction, poetry or fiction, memory is crucial to crafting story. In this generative workshop, we will use reading, discussion, and lots of writing to develop tools to help you discover memories and bring them to life on the page. Expect a warm, supportive environment, lively discussion, and a safe space to create and share.
