House Republican Leader Mike McLane responds to House Democrats’ decision to roll back the small business tax cut

Salem, Ore. – House Republican Leader Mike McLane (R-Powell Butte) issued the following statement in response to House Democrats’ decision to roll back the small business tax cut and gut the 2013 Grand Bargain:

“We made an agreement – the same four legislative leaders that are still in this building today – to provide tax relief to middle-class Oregonians and small businesses. That support came in exchange for tax increases to C-corporations and modifications to the senior medical deduction. That was less than four years ago. Sadly, it appears that the word of Democratic leadership has a shelf life.

“I’m further troubled that Speaker Kotek appears ready to pass this tax increase on small businesses on a simple majority vote in clear violation of the Oregon Constitution’s supermajority requirement. She is putting her own reputation and the credibility of the Legislature at risk in a desperate money grab. Her actions show a shocking level of disregard for this institution and for the people we collectively swore an oath to serve.”
